How do you bleed brakes on a 2003 Nissan Maxima?

Tools and Materials Needed:

Brake fluid (DOT3 or DOT4)

Clear hose

Container to catch brake fluid

8 mm wrench or socket

Small pan or bucket

Instructions:

1. Park the car in a safe location and turn off the engine. Apply the parking brake and use a chock on the wheels to prevent it from rolling.

2. Open the hood of the car and locate brake fluid reservoir. It's usually a translucent plastic tank with a black or blue cap labeled "Brake Fluid."

3. Remove the cap from the brake fluid reservoir. Check the brake fluid level and add more if necessary. Do not overfill.

4. Locate the brake bleeder valves on each wheel. They're usually located at the top of the wheel cylinders.

5. Attach the clear hose to one of the brake bleed valves. Make sure the other end of the hose is submerged in the container to catch the brake fluid.

6. Have a friend or assistant depress the brake pedal slowly and hold it down. While they're doing this, open the bleed valve about 1/4 of a turn with an 8 mm wrench. You'll see the brake fluid flow out of the hose into the container.

7. Continue to press the brake pedal and hold it down until no more air bubbles come out of the hose.

8. Close the bleed valve when the brake pedal is still fully depressed.

9. Repeat steps 5-8 on each of the remaining brake bleed valves.

10. Top up the brake fluid reservoir if necessary.

11. Test the brakes by pumping the pedal a few times. It should feel firm and not go all the way to the floor.

Note: It's important to keep an eye on the brake fluid level throughout the process to ensure that it doesn't get too low. If it does, air can enter the system and make it difficult to bleed the brakes properly.

Additional Tips:

It's a good idea to bleed the brakes after changing brake pads or rotors.

If the brake fluid is dark or cloudy, it's time to change it.

Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations when servicing the brakes.
