2. Jack up the rear of your Rodeo and secure it with jack stands.
3. Remove the lug nuts and take off the rear wheels.
4. Remove the brake drum cover. There are two Phillips-head screws holding the cover in place.
5. Use a brake spoon to pry the brake shoes away from the drum. Start by prying the shoes away from the bottom, and then work your way up. Be careful not to damage the brake shoes or the drum.
6. Once the brake shoes are removed, inspect the drum. Look for any signs of damage such as cracks, gouges, or rust. If the drum is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
7. Clean the brake drum. Use a brake cleaner and a clean rag to remove any dirt, dust, or grease from the drum.
7. Apply a thin coat of brake grease to the inside of the brake drum.
8. Install the new brake shoes. Start by inserting the shoes into the slots in the backing plate. Then, press the shoes down until they are seated against the drum. Make sure that the brake shoes are properly seated before moving on to the next step.
9. Install the new drum hardware kit. The hardware kit will include the springs, pins, and retainers that hold the brake shoes in place. Follow the instructions in the hardware kit to properly install the new parts.
10. Adjust the brake shoes. Use a flathead screwdriver to adjust the brake shoes until the tips of the shoes are 1/16 inch from the drum.
11. Reinstall the brake drum cover.
12. Reinstall the rear wheels and lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts until they are snug.
13. Lower the Rodeo off the jack stands.
14. Test the brakes by applying pressure to the brake pedal. The pedal should feel firm and should not travel to the floor.
Note:
- Do not use brake cleaner on brake pads.
- Do not apply grease to brake shoes.
- Be sure to test the brakes before driving the vehicle.
