1. Locate the EGR valve. On the Ford Contour, it is located on the back of the engine, near the top. It has two vacuum lines attached to it, and a metal tube connecting it to the exhaust.
2. Remove the two vacuum lines from the EGR valve.
3. Remove the two bolts that hold the EGR valve in place.
4. Remove the EGR valve. It may be stuck, so you may need to gently pry it off with a screwdriver.
5. Clean the EGR valve. Use a degreaser and a brush to clean off any carbon deposits from the valve.
6. Reinstall the EGR valve. Replace the two bolts and the two vacuum lines.
7. Start the engine and check for leaks. If there are any leaks, tighten the bolts or replace the gasket.
