My 1989 Chevy caprice classis wont move when i put it in gear why is doing this?

1. Transmission Fluid Levels and Quality:

- Start by checking your transmission fluid level and color. Low transmission fluid can cause slipping and shifting problems.

- If the fluid is dark or smells burnt, it should be replaced.

2. Transmission Lines:

- Also, inspect the transmission lines for leaks, cracks or kinks.

3. Transmission Filter:

- Dirty or clogged transmission filter can restrict fluid flow and cause shifting issue.s.

4. Transmission Shift Linkage/Cables:

- These components connect the gear selector to the transmission, damaged or loose linkage can prevent the transmission from shifting properly.

5. Faulty Clutch (Manual Transmission):

- If your vehicle has a manual transmission, a faulty clutch can cause shifting problems.

- The clutch may need to be adjusted, replaced or repaired if it is slipping.

6.Faulty Shift Solenoids:

- Electronic controlled transmissions utilize shift solenoids that regulates fluid flow to engage the appropriate gears.

- Malfunctioning solenoids can lead to shifting issues.

7. Transmission Control Module (TCM):

- This computer controls the electronic components of the transmission. If the TCM fails or its programming is corrupted, it can cause shifting problems

8. Driveshaft:

- A damaged driveshaft can cause vibration, noise and difficulties in shifting gears. Inspect for any damage or worn components

9. Differential:

- The differential transfers rotational power from the transmission to the wheels. Problems with the differential can cause the wheels to rotate at different speeds, making it difficult to move.

10. Computer Issue:

- In newer vehicles, the transmission may depend on various computer inputs for smooth gear shifting. Faulty sensors can disrupt the transmission’s ability to shift properly.
