Transmission Fluid Flush: A Better Service

Automatic transmissions are actually a modern day marvel. We just shift into Drive and away we go. But proper maintenance is necessary to keep it so.

For almost all drivers these days, automatic transmissions only make sense. But one needs to make a decision about maintaining the automatic transmission. Flushing your transmission routinely can prevent you from having to flush your wallet later in the life of your car.

There used to be a time when the transmission service consisted of removing the transmission pan, draining only about a third of the automatic transmission fluid (ATF) that’s in the transmission, replacing the filter, then reassembling everything with a new pan gasket and replacing that one third of the transmission fluid. Turns out, this procedure really didn’t do anything and it didn’t clean anything. And the dirt and impurities left behind in the automatic transmission fluid could mean the eventual death of the transmission. Dirt floating around inside a transmission can block fluid passages, which can cause slippage. Transmission slippage will cause heat and heat is the number one enemy of an automatic transmission.

What’s the answer? Well, flushing out all the fluid, of course. When flushing the transmission fluid, the whole purpose is to get all the dirt out and the new fluid in. When finished, the fluid in the transmission should all be brand new. A proper flush requires the right machine and it’s important that the new fluid being introduced into the transmission is the proper type for the particular vehicle being flushed.

Here at Budget Auto Repair & Transmission, we stock a full line of automatic transmission fluids – including full synthetic transmission fluids and CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) fluid. So you can be sure we have the right ATF, automatic transmission fluid, for your car. The flush machine we use has hoses that connect into the cooling lines of the transmission. The old fluid is drained or flushed out and isolated in a separate chamber within the machine, so it does not mix with new automatic transmission fluid. While the old fluid is being extracted, new transmission fluid is being introduced into the transmission. Here’s one big difference with our machine: it also uses special chemicals that clean the inside of the transmission. These cleaning chemicals soften and wash away all the dirt that’s inside the transmission, trapping all that dirt back in the machine. This ensures that your transmission is truly clean. Finally, our machine does all this at normal transmission system pressure; so there’s never the danger of damaging transmission components or seals.

This transmission fluid flush process can double, triple, or even quadruple the life of your transmission. In many instances, routinely performing this transmission flush service, say about every 30,000 miles, can make the transmission last for the entire life of the car.
