1. Park your vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
2. Locate the gear shift lever and, if equipped, lift it upward to disengage the shift lock mechanism.
3. Reach underneath the dashboard and locate the gear shift cable connection mechanism, which may be covered by a plastic cover.
4. Remove the plastic cover if necessary and disconnect the cable from the gear shift lever by pressing the release button on the connection mechanism and pulling the cable away from the lever.
5. Remove the four bolts holding the gear shift lever to the transmission housing using a wrench or ratchet and socket set.
6. Lift the gear shift lever up and out of the vehicle, being careful not to drop any small parts.
7. To reinstall the gear shift lever, simply follow these steps in reverse order, ensuring that the gear shift cable is properly reconnected to the gear shift lever and that all bolts are securely fastened.
