How do you change brake pads on 2000 Chevy S-10?

Tools and Materials Needed:

-New brake pads

-C-Clamp

-Breaker bar

-Socket set

-Jack and jack stands

-Safety glasses

Step 1: Preparation

1. Park the vehicle on a flat surface and apply the parking brake.

2. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels, but don't remove them completely.

3. Jack up the front of the vehicle and support it with jack stands.

4. Remove the front wheels.

Step 2: Remove the Brake Calipers

5. Use a socket wrench to remove the two bolts that hold the brake caliper to the steering knuckle.

6. Gently pry the brake caliper off the rotor using a pry bar.

7. Hang the brake caliper from the frame with a piece of wire or rope. Be careful not to let it hang from the brake line, as this could damage it.

Step 3: Remove the Old Brake Pads

8. Use a C-Clamp to compress the brake piston back into the caliper. This will make it easier to remove the brake pads.

9. Remove the two pins that hold the brake pads in place.

10. Remove the old brake pads.

Step 4: Install the New Brake Pads

11. Install the new brake pads in the caliper. Make sure that they are seated correctly.

12. Replace the pins that hold the brake pads in place.

13. Release the brake piston back out.

Step 5: Reinstall the Brake Calipers

14. Reinstall the brake calipers onto the steering knuckle.

15. Tighten the two bolts that hold the caliper in place.

16. Reinstall the wheels.

Step 6: Test the Brakes

17. Get back into the vehicle and start the engine.

18. Pump the brake pedal several times until you feel resistance.

19. Take the vehicle for a test drive and brake a few times to test the new brakes.
