Ensure the engine has been turned off for a while and is not too hot to touch to prevent burns.
It is usually on the side of the engine block and attached to the serpentine belt. It has a movable arm with a bolt passing through it.
Use a suitable wrench to loosen the bolt that holds the tensioner arm in place. This will release tension on the serpentine belt.
Use your hand or a lever to move the tensioner arm towards the engine. This will tighten the serpentine belt.
Once the desired belt tension has been achieved, tighten the tensioner bolt securely to hold the arm in place.
Ensure the serpentine belt is at the proper tension by pressing down on the longest span of the belt between the pulleys. It should deflect approximately 1/2 to 1 inch (1.27 to 2.54 cm).
Run the engine and visually inspect the serpentine belt for proper alignment, tension, and any signs of wear or damage. If the belt appears misaligned, too loose, or damaged, replace it with a new one.
