1. Gather Tools and Materials:
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Flat-head screwdriver or trim removal tool
- New speakers (make sure they fit the size of the factory speakers)
- Electrical tape
- Speaker wire (if necessary)
2. Disconnect the Battery:
- Disconnect the negative terminal of the car battery to avoid any electrical accidents.
3. Remove the Door Panel:
- Locate and remove the screws that secure the door panel in place. These screws are usually located around the edges of the panel, including behind door handles and covers.
- Once the screws are removed, carefully pry the door panel off using the flat-head screwdriver or trim removal tool. Be careful not to damage the door panel or clips.
- Disconnect any electrical connectors that are attached to the door panel, such as the power window switch or door light.
4. Locate and Remove the Speaker:
- Once the door panel is removed, you'll see the factory speaker mounted in the door.
- Disconnect the speaker wires by gently prying them off the speaker terminals. Take note of the polarity (positive and negative terminals).
5. Install the New Speaker:
- Connect the new speaker wires to the speaker terminals, matching the polarity. Use electrical tape to secure the connections.
- Position the new speaker in the same location as the old one and secure it in place using the screws that came with the speaker.
6. Reattach the Door Panel:
- Reconnect any electrical connectors that you disconnected earlier.
- Carefully align the door panel and reinstall the screws that you removed.
7. Reconnect the Battery:
- Reconnect the negative terminal of the car battery.
8. Test the Speakers:
- Turn on the car stereo and check if the new speakers are working properly. Make sure the sound is clear and balanced.
Additional Notes:
- If your Montero Sport has factory-installed tweeters, you may need to replace them as well. The process is similar to replacing the door speakers.
- If the new speakers don't fit perfectly in the factory speaker mounts, you may need to make minor modifications to the door panel or use speaker adapters.
- If you're not comfortable performing this task, consider seeking assistance from a professional car audio installer to avoid damaging your car's electrical system or door panel.
