Locate the tensioner pulley. It is usually located near the top of the engine, near the serpentine belt. It may have a plastic or metal cover.
Remove the cover. If there is a cover over the tensioner pulley, remove it using the appropriate tool (usually a screwdriver or wrench).
Loosen the tensioner pulley. Insert a wrench into the tensioner pulley bolt and turn it counterclockwise until the belt tension is released.
Remove the belt. Once the tension is released, you can remove the belt by removing it from the pulleys.
Replace the belt. If you are replacing the belt, install the new belt by putting it around the pulleys and tightening the tensioner pulley bolt.
Reattach the cover. Once the belt is installed, reattach the tensioner pulley cover if there was one.
Check the belt tension. Use a tension gauge to check the tension of the belt and adjust it as necessary.
Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for your specific model when loosening the tension on the pulleys.
