How do you remove the front brake shoes on a 1992 Ford Aerostar?

Tools

- Flat-head screwdriver

- Box-end wrench

- Phillips-head screwdriver

- Hammer

- Brake cleaner

- Pliers

- Safety glasses

Instructions:

1. Engage the parking brake and block off the rear tires to prevent the vehicle from rolling.

2. Locate the brake shoe access covers on the wheel hubs. They are held in place by two Phillips-head screws. Remove these screws and take off the covers.

3. Inside the access cover, you will see the brake shoes and the brake shoe retaining springs. Use the flat-head screwdriver or pliers to release the retaining springs and remove them from the shoes.

4. Next, use the box-end wrench to remove the castle nuts that hold the axle nuts in place. Then, use the hammer to knock the axle nuts loose.

5. Remove the axle nuts and take off the wheels.

6. Carefully pry apart the brake shoes to release the pressure from the brake pads.

7. Use the pliers to remove the brake shoes from the vehicle.

8. Clean the brake shoes, wheel hubs, and surrounding area with brake cleaner to remove any dirt, grease, or debris.

9. Repeat the process on the other wheel.

10. When reinstalling the brake shoes, be sure to engage the brake shoe retainers properly.

11. Replace the axle nuts and wheels and tighten them securely. Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and release the parking brake.

Note: Always refer to a vehicle repair manual for more detailed and accurate instructions on servicing your vehicle.
