How do you change a starter on 1993 Ranger?

1993 Ford Ranger Starter Replacement

Tools and Materials Needed

* New starter

* Starter solenoid

* Socket wrench set

* Screwdriver

* Pliers

* Hammer

Instructions

1. Disconnect the battery.

2. Remove the air cleaner housing.

3. Locate the starter. It is located on the passenger side of the engine, behind the exhaust manifold.

4. Remove the starter bolts. There are two bolts that hold the starter in place.

5. Remove the electrical connections from the starter. There are two electrical connections on the starter: a large positive cable and a small wire that connects to the solenoid.

6. Remove the starter. Once the bolts and electrical connections are removed, you can remove the starter by lifting it out of the engine compartment.

7. Install the new starter. Insert the new starter into the engine compartment and secure it with the starter bolts.

8. Reconnect the electrical connections to the starter. Connect the large positive cable to the starter terminal and the small wire to the solenoid.

9. Reinstall the air cleaner housing.

10. Reconnect the battery.

Tips

* When removing the starter bolts, be careful not to drop them into the engine compartment.

* If the starter is seized, you may need to use a hammer to loosen it.

* Be sure to disconnect the battery before starting any work on the starter.
