1. Disconnect battery:
Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical accidents during the repair process.
2. Remove the passenger side front wheel:
This is to access the serpentine belt more conveniently.
3. Remove the splash guards:
To reach the belt tensioner, remove the splash guards under the vehicle's front end.
4. Locate the belt tensioner:
It is usually near the bottom of the engine.
5. Release tension on the belt:
Use a wrench or socket to turn the belt tensioner pulley in a counterclockwise direction to release tension on the belt. This may require a bit of force
6. Remove the old belt:
With the tension released, slide the old belt off of all pulleys.
7. Inspect the belt tensioner pulley and other pulleys:
Check for wear, cracks, or any damage. You might want to replace the belt tensioner pulley and idler pulleys if needed.
8. Install the new belt:
Start by slipping the belt over the crankshaft pulley, then wrap it around the other pulleys in a clockwise direction. Follow the routing diagram in your owner's manual to ensure proper alignment.
9. Re-tension the belt:
Rotate the belt tensioner pulley in the counterclockwise direction again to put tension back on the belt.
10. Check the belt tension:
Use the recommended method such as a specific tool or simply press down on the belt with your thumb. The tension should be within the specified range.
11. Double check the belt routing:
Make sure that the belt is properly routed around all pulleys.
12.Reinstall removed components:
Put back the splash guards and reinstall the passenger side front wheel.
13.Reconnect the battery:
Reconnect the negative battery terminal and ensure the connection is secure.
14. Start the engine and check the belt alignment:
Let the engine run for a few minutes and visually inspect the belt alignment and operation.
15.Test drive the vehicle
Take the Odyssey for a short drive and ensure that the belt is performing as expected without any unusual noise or vibrations.
