Car Hack to Expanding Your Car’s Life Expectancy

Like the human body, ignoring even the smallest signs of trouble in your car’s performance can lead to trouble down the road.  And some missed signals cost more than others.  Meaning that once you do get to the point where you want to get your car checked out, you’ll be so deep in a hole of trouble that the last thing you want to do is waste all your hard-earned money on a mistake that could’ve been avoided months ago.  But no, here you are facing a giant bill with a hope and a prayer that this will be the last time you have to spend your afternoon at a mechanic shop.

But don’t you worry,  hopefully, your reading this article before you’ve reached that point in time.  I am going to provide you with a list so unconquerable to the mishaps of car troubles you’ll think a magic genie mechanic is following you everywhere you go.

First of all, before I jump right into it.  DO NOT skip your monthly scheduled maintenance check.  We all have a hectic schedule in between work and tonight’s season finale on TV, but, as cruel as it sounds, we all have to sacrifice time to what we blindly rely on so heavily, our car.  

Now, if you’re still with us I am assuming your either knee deep in car trouble, or your just flat out subconsciously aware of the horror that is casted in one’s life when that check engine light lights up like a bat out the shadows.  It can be such a gruesome sight, trust me I know.

1. Change your oil! This is your engines life-blood, the fluid that lubricates, cools, cleans and prevents corrosion in your engine.  Typically you should change your oil every 3,000 miles while modern cars, with synthetic oil, you can stretch that to 5,000 miles. But if you’re in the 6,000th mile of your car and haven’t changed your oil your just playing with fire at that point.
2. Check your tires! Keeping your tires inflated to the proper tire pressure is one of the most important pieces of vehicle maintenance you can do. Luckily, it is also one of the easiest. Keeping your tires filled to the recommended pressure can help you avoid flats, improve the handling and performance of your vehicle, and help you to boost your fuel economy over every mile you travel.
3. Stay on top of your coolant and brake fluids!  The best rule of thumb is to make sure your coolant and brake fluid levels are always between the minimum and maximum lines. First, make sure you get the right coolant for your engine type. Although many coolant companies now make their fluid safe for most cars, you should still consult your owner’s manual to be sure. You should also consult your manual for information on brake fluid and transmission fluid recommendations.
