Disconnect the Negative Battery Terminal:
- Before you begin any work, locate and disconnect the negative terminal of your vehicle's battery. This step will help prevent the unintentional deployment of the airbag.
Remove the Glove Box:
- Open the passenger side glove box.
- Locate the screws or plastic fasteners that hold the glove box in place.
- Remove the screws or fasteners to free the glove box and set it aside.
Locate the Airbag Module:
- Once the glove box is removed, you'll be able to see the passenger side airbag module housed behind the dashboard.
- Be cautious and avoid any contact with the airbag module or wiring.
Deactivate the Airbag System:
- Refer to your vehicle's service manual to locate the specific fuse responsible for the passenger side airbag system.
- Remove this fuse to deactivate the airbag system completely.
Remove the Airbag Module:
- Look for the screws or bolts that secure the airbag module to the dashboard frame.
- Using the appropriate tools, carefully remove these screws or bolts to free the airbag module.
Disconnect Electrical Connectors:
- Be attentive when disconnecting electrical connectors that supply power to the airbag module.
- Remember their orientation and disconnect them carefully to avoid damage.
Remove the Old Airbag:
- Once the airbag module is free, delicately lift it out of its housing.
- Be careful not to drop or impact the module during this process.
Install the New Airbag Module:
- Take the new airbag module and gently place it into the dashboard housing.
- Ensure the brackets or mounting points align properly.
Reconnect the Electrical Connectors:
- Reconnect the electrical connectors to the new airbag module, paying attention to their proper orientation.
Secure the Airbag Module:
- Reinstall the screws or bolts you removed earlier to secure the airbag module in place.
Plug the Fuse:
- Return to the fuse box and reinsert the fuse you removed to deactivate the airbag system.
Reconnect the Battery:
- Go back to the vehicle's battery and reconnect the negative terminal.
Test the System:
- Once everything is reconnected and in place, turn the ignition key to the "ON" position without starting the engine.
- Check if the airbag indicator light illuminates briefly on the dashboard and then turns off, indicating that the system is functional.
