Tools and Materials:
- Replacement Rear Wiper Motor
- Socket wrench set
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Flat head screwdriver
- Pliers
- Towel
Instructions:
1. Remove the rear liftgate trim panel.
- Pry off the plastic covers on the liftgate handle and pop the caps covering the screws.
- Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws revealed.
- Gently pry off the liftgate trim panel, starting from the bottom and working your way up.
- Disconnect any electrical connectors you may find.
2. Locate the rear wiper motor.
- The wiper motor is usually located on the inside of the liftgate, behind the plastic trim panel.
- It is attached to the wiper transmission linkage.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Locate the electrical connector attached to the wiper motor.
- Press the release tab on the connector and disconnect it.
4. Remove the wiper arm and transmission linkage.
- Use a flat head screwdriver to pry off the cap on the wiper arm nut.
- Loosen the nut using a socket wrench and remove the wiper arm.
- Disconnect the wiper transmission linkage from the wiper motor by pressing the release tab.
5. Remove the wiper motor mounting bolts.
- Locate the bolts that hold the wiper motor in place.
- Use a socket wrench to remove these bolts.
6. Remove the old wiper motor.
- Once the bolts are removed, you can carefully remove the old wiper motor from the liftgate.
7. Install the new wiper motor.
- Insert the new wiper motor into place and secure it using the mounting bolts.
8. Reattach the wiper transmission linkage.
- Connect the wiper transmission linkage to the new wiper motor.
9. Reattach the wiper arm.
- Slide the wiper arm onto the splined shaft of the wiper motor.
- Secure the wiper arm with the nut and cap.
10. Reconnect the electrical connector.
- Reconnect the electrical connector that you disconnected earlier.
11. Replace the rear liftgate trim panel.
- Place the liftgate trim panel back in its original position.
- Secure it with the screws you removed earlier.
12. Test the rear wiper motor.
- Turn on the rear wiper switch to ensure the new motor is working properly.
Note:
- Be cautious when prying off plastic covers and trim panels to prevent damage.
- It's recommended to have a towel or blanket underneath the liftgate to prevent scratches or damage to the paint.
- Consult your vehicle's service manual or a professional mechanic if you encounter difficulties during the replacement process.
