How do you replace rear brake light in a 1995 Toyota 4 Runner?

Materials:

- Flat head screwdriver

- Small Phillips head screwdriver

- Torx bit driver (T30)

- New bulb

- Rags

*Note: Ensure the vehicle is parked in a safe, flat area and the parking brake is engaged before starting*

Step-by-step Instructions:

1. Open the Rear Door: Open the rear door of your Toyota 4Runner to access the rear light housing.

2. Remove the Plastic Cover: Locate the plastic cover over the rear light assembly. Use a flat-head screwdriver to gently pry open the tabs holding the cover in place. Be careful not to damage the cover or surrounding trim.

3. Unscrew the Torx Bolts: Inside the exposed light assembly housing, you will find two T30 Torx bolts holding the tail light assembly in place. Use the Torx bit driver to loosen and remove these bolts.

4. Unplug the Wiring Harness: Once the bolts are removed, you should see the tail light assembly held by a wiring harness. Gently pull the connector to disconnect the wiring harness.

5. Remove the Old Bulb: With the wiring harness disconnected, you can now access the old bulb. Pull the bulb out of its socket by gently twisting and pulling it straight out.

6. Install the New Bulb: Insert the new bulb into its socket. Ensure that it is properly seated and locked in place by twisting it gently until it clicks.

7. Reconnect the Wiring Harness: Reconnect the wiring harness to the tail light assembly by plugging it back into the connector.

8. Secure the Tail Light Assembly: Replace the T30 Torx bolts to secure the tail light assembly back in place. Tighten the bolts until they are snug but do not overtighten.

9. Replace the Plastic Cover: Reattach the plastic cover you removed earlier by aligning it with the tabs and gently pressing until it snaps into place.

10. Test the Brake Light: Close the rear door, turn on the ignition, and check to ensure that the new brake light is working correctly when you press the brake pedal.

Please remember to follow proper safety precautions while handling mechanical components and electrical connections during the repair process. If you are uncomfortable performing this task, it's best to seek professional assistance from a qualified mechanic to avoid any potential issues or safety risks.
