How do you replace a lost Kansas license?

Replacing a Lost Kansas Driver License

In the unfortunate event that your Kansas driver’s license has been lost, you can take the following steps to replace it.

1. Visit the Kansas Department of Revenue (DOR) Office

Visit the nearest Kansas Department of Revenue (DOR) office to obtain the Application for Driver's License (Form DL-20). Contact your local driver’s license office to confirm any necessary supporting documents before you visit.

2. Complete and Submit the Application

Fill out the application form completely and accurately, providing the following information:

- Your full legal name

- Date of birth

- Social security number (optional)

- Driver’s license number (if known)

- Current Kansas residential address

- Contact information (phone number, email)

3. Present Required Supporting Documents

Along with the completed application form, you will need to present the following documents:

- A proof of identity, such as a valid passport, birth certificate, or military ID.

- Proof of residency, such as a utility bill or a lease agreement.

- A recent photograph that meets the Kansas driver’s license requirements (2” x 2”, full face).

- The fee for replacing the driver’s license (currently $25).

- Other supporting documents, if required (e.g., a court order for a name change).

4. Pass the Vision Test

You will be required to pass a vision test to ensure your eyesight meets the minimum standards for driving.

5. Receive Temporary Permit (Optional)

After submitting your application and documents, you may receive a temporary permit that allows you to drive legally while your new license is being processed.

6. Receive your New Driver’s License

Once everything is in order and your application is approved, the Kansas DOR will mail your new driver’s license to your address within a few weeks.

Additional Tips:

- When going to the DOR office, make sure to bring all of the required documents, including the proper identification and proof of residency.

- You can also renew your driver’s license online through the myDMV portal or by mail.
