Additional differences:
- Semi trucks are required to have a CDL with either a Class A or Class B license, depending on the weight of the vehicle. Straight trucks may not require a CDL, depending on the state and the weight of the vehicle.
- Semi trucks must also display placards indicating the hazardous materials they are carrying, if any. Straight trucks are not required to do this unless they are carrying large amounts of hazardous materials.
- Semi trucks are subject to more frequent inspections than straight trucks.
