- Fiberglass repair kit - includes resin and fiberglass cloth/tape
- Sandpaper - various grits, including 60, 100, and 220 grit
- Gloves
- Safety glasses
- Masking tape
- Drop cloth or polyethylene sheet
Step 1: Preparation:
1. Clean the area around the crack thoroughly to remove any dirt or debris.
2. Sand the area around the crack using the 60-grit sandpaper to create a rough surface for better adhesion of the fiberglass repair material.
3. Continue sanding with finer grits (100 and 220) to smooth the area.
4. Ensure the surface is clean and dust-free before proceeding to the next step.
Step 2: Apply Masking Tape:
1. Apply masking tape around the crack to protect the surrounding area from the resin and fiberglass cloth/tape.
2. Make sure to leave enough room (at least 1-2 inches) around the crack for the repair material.
Step 3: Apply Resin:
1. Wear gloves and safety glasses for protection.
2. Mix the resin according to the manufacturer's instructions.
3. Apply the resin to the sanded and prepared area around the crack, making sure to fill in the crack and cover it completely.
4. Allow the resin to cure for the recommended time as per the manufacturer's instructions.
Step 4: Apply Fiberglass Cloth/Tape:
1. Cut a piece of fiberglass cloth/tape that is slightly larger than the crack.
2. Apply a second coat of resin to the area where you'll be applying the fiberglass cloth/tape.
3. Immediately press the fiberglass cloth/tape onto the resin-coated area, ensuring that it sticks well and no air bubbles are trapped.
4. Apply a coat of resin over the fiberglass cloth/tape to saturate it and ensure a strong bond.
5. Allow the resin and fiberglass cloth/tape to cure according to the manufacturer's recommended curing time.
Step 5: Sanding and Finishing:
1. Once the repair material has cured completely, remove the masking tape.
2. Sand the repaired area using the 220-grit sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges or bumps.
3. Sand the entire surface of the black tank to ensure a uniform appearance and to remove any remaining dust or debris.
4. Clean the surface thoroughly to remove any residual sanding dust.
5. Apply a sealant or paint (designed for RV black tanks) to protect the repaired area and prevent future cracks or leaks.

- Follow the instructions and recommendations provided by the fiberglass repair kit manufacturer to ensure proper application and effective repair.
- If the crack is extensive or the black tank is significantly damaged, it may be best to consult with a professional for proper assessment and repair.
