Instructions:
Step 1: Disconnect the Negative Battery Cable
This will prevent the vehicle from starting and will also allow you to reset all the electronics.
Step 2: Remove the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose
Use a flat-head screwdriver to loosen the hose clamp and pull off the hose from the brake booster.
Step 3: Remove the Brake Lines from the Master Cylinder
Use a 17mm wrench to loosen the brake line banjo bolts and remove the brake lines. Be sure to catch any brake fluid that leaks out into a container.
Step 4: Remove the Brake Booster Nuts and Remove the Brake Booster
Locate the four brake booster nuts on the firewall and remove them using a 13mm socket. Once the nuts are removed, gently pull the brake booster towards you to remove it.
Step 5: Disconnect the Brake Pedal Pushrod
Before removing the brake booster from the vehicle, use a flat-head screwdriver to gently pry the brake pedal pushrod out from the brake booster clevis pin. Bungee the brake pedal down once disconnected to prevent the master cylinder from extending.
Step 6: Remove the old Master Cylinder
Unclip the brake line retainer from the master cylinder, remove the brake lines with a 10mm wrench and remove the two master cylinder nuts securing it to the booster (a 13mm wrench will work). Pull the master cylinder straight up from the booster and set aside.
Step 7: Transfer the Master Cylinder to the New Booster
Align the master cylinder to the new brake booster assembly and tighten the two nuts. Remove the breather cap and fill the new brake booster and master cylinder with fresh brake fluid. Replace the cap.
Step 8: Reinstall the Brake Booster
Gently insert the brake booster clevis pin into the brake pedal pushrod, secure with the lockpin and carefully reinstall the brake booster into the vehicle. Tighten the four nuts on the firewall to secure it.
Step 9: Reconnect the Brake Lines and Vacuum Hose
Reconnect the brake lines and vacuum hose that were disconnected in Steps 2 and 3.
Step 10: Bleed the Brakes
Use a brake bleeder wrench to bleed the brakes until all the bubbles are removed from the system.
Step 11: Reconnect the Negative Battery Terminal
Reconnect the negative battery terminal to restore power to the vehicle.
Step 12: Test the Brakes
Start the car and test the brakes. Make sure the brakes are working properly before driving.
