1. Gather Tools and Materials:
- Replacement ignition switch
- 10mm socket wrench
- Phillips-head screwdriver
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Key
- Flashlight (if needed)
2. Disconnect the Battery:
- Open the hood of your Cabriolet.
- Locate the negative (-) terminal of the battery.
- Loosen the nut or bolt securing the negative terminal and remove the cable.
- This will disconnect the electrical power to the car, ensuring safety during the switch replacement.
3. Remove the Steering Column Covers:
- On the steering column, there will be two plastic covers.
- Use the Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws holding these covers in place.
- Gently pry off the covers to expose the ignition switch.
4. Remove the Ignition Lock:
- Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to the "ON" position.
- Use a flat-head screwdriver to depress the small release button located near the lock cylinder.
- While pressing the release button, turn the key to the "ACC" position and pull the lock cylinder out of the switch.
5. Disconnect the Wiring Harness:
- Behind the ignition switch, you'll see the wiring harness connected to it.
- Use the 10mm socket wrench to loosen the nuts or bolts holding the wiring harness in place.
- Carefully disconnect the wiring harness from the switch.
6. Remove the Ignition Switch:
- Once the wiring harness is disconnected, you can remove the ignition switch.
- There will be mounting bolts or screws securing the switch to the steering column.
- Use the 10mm socket wrench to loosen and remove these bolts or screws.
- Gently pull the ignition switch out from the steering column.
7. Install the New Ignition Switch:
- Align the new ignition switch with the mounting holes on the steering column.
- Insert the mounting bolts or screws and tighten them securely.
- Reconnect the wiring harness to the new switch. Tighten the nuts or bolts to secure the connection.
8. Replace the Ignition Lock:
- Insert the ignition lock cylinder back into the switch and turn it to the "ON" position.
- Ensure that the lock cylinder is properly seated and engaged.
9. Reinstall the Steering Column Covers:
- Replace the plastic covers you removed earlier. Secure them with the Phillips-head screws.
10. Reconnect the Battery:
- Go back to the engine compartment and reconnect the negative (-) battery cable to the battery terminal. Tighten the nut or bolt to secure the connection.
11. Test the New Ignition Switch:
- Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position. Check if the power turns on and if the car starts as usual.
