1. Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine.
If possible, park on a level surface. Engage the parking brake and turn on the hazard lights to ensure safety.
2. Open the trunk.
Locate the trunk release button or lever inside your vehicle and press it to open the trunk.
3. Locate the brake light assembly.
The brake light assembly is usually located inside the trunk, on either side of the vehicle. It may be covered by a plastic panel, which you can remove by gently prying it off with your fingers or a flat-head screwdriver.
4. Remove the old brake light bulb.
Twist the old brake light bulb counterclockwise to remove it from the socket. Be careful not to drop the bulb.
5. Install the new brake light bulb.
Align the new brake light bulb with the socket and twist it clockwise until it is secure. Make sure the bulb is properly seated and does not wiggle.
6. Test the brake lights.
Turn on the headlights and brake pedal to make sure the new brake light is functioning properly. If it is not, recheck the installation and ensure the bulb is properly seated and the electrical connection is secure.
7. Replace the plastic panel (if necessary).
If you removed a plastic panel to access the brake light assembly, carefully put it back in place and press until it snaps securely.
8. Close the trunk.
Once everything is in place, close the trunk and ensure the latch engages properly.
