Instructions:
Step 1: Safety
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent any electrical shock.
Step 2: Remove serpentine belt
- Look for the tensioner pulley for the serpentine belt, usually has an adjustment screw.
- Hold or fasten in place the adjustment bracket with a pry bar.
- Turn the tensioner adjuster screw, this should lessen the belt's tension.
- Remove the serpentine belt.
Step 3: Remove alternator belt
- Locate the alternator belt, usually smaller than the serpentine belt.
- Remove the alternator bolt so that the alternator moves freely.
- Remove the alternator belt.
Step 4: Replace the alternator belt
- Check that the new belt is aligned correctly with the alternator and the tensioner pulley.
- Replace the alternator bolt but don’t tighten it up all the way.
- Reinstall the serpentine belt.
- Once done reinstalling the serpentine belt, ensure that the belt isn't too loose or too tight. You should be able to push down half an inch.
- Tighten the alternator bolt the rest of the way.
Step 5: Final assembly
- Start the engine and let it idle.
- Inspect the alternator belt and serpentine belt for any abnormal movements or noises.
- Adjust the belts if necessary and tighten them up if required.
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
