- Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine.
- Open the hood of your car.
- Locate the brake fluid reservoir. It is usually a clear plastic container with a black cap.
- Remove the cap from the brake fluid reservoir.
- Use a turkey baster or other suction device to remove as much brake fluid from the reservoir as possible.
- Refill the brake fluid reservoir with new brake fluid. The type of brake fluid you need will be specified in your car's owner's manual.
- Replace the cap on the brake fluid reservoir.
- Start your car and let it run for a few minutes.
- The brake fluid light should now be reset.
- For BMWs with iDrive:
- Press the "BC" button on the turn signal stalk
- Scroll down to "Service reset" and press "OK"
- Scroll down to "Brake fluid" and press "OK"
- Press and hold the "BC" button for a few seconds until the light resets.
