1. Roll off the throttle. As you prepare to downshift, roll off the throttle and let the motorcycle decelerate slightly. This will help to reduce the load on the transmission and make the shift smoother.
2. Pull in the clutch lever. Once the motorcycle has decelerated, pull in the clutch lever with your left hand. This will disengage the transmission from the engine and allow you to change gears.
3. Press down on the shift lever with your left foot. While holding in the clutch lever, press down on the shift lever with your left foot. This will move the transmission into the next lower gear.
4. Release the clutch lever. Once the transmission is in the next lower gear, slowly release the clutch lever. This will re-engage the transmission and the motorcycle will begin to accelerate again.
Tips for Downshifting:
* Downshift early rather than late. This will help to avoid putting unnecessary stress on the transmission.
* Don't downshift too quickly. This can cause the motorcycle to lurch and become unstable.
* Practice downshifting in a safe area until you are comfortable with the process.
* If you are ever unsure about which gear to downshift into, err on the side of caution and downshift into a higher gear.
