Drivers being tailgated are advised to?

Do not brake immediately. Braking suddenly can cause the tailgating driver to rear-end you. Instead, gradually reduce your speed until the tailgating driver gets the message and backs off.

Turn on your hazard lights. This will let the tailgating driver know that you are aware of them and that you are taking steps to avoid a collision.

Pull off to the side of the road. If the tailgating driver does not back off after you have tried the above steps, pull off to the side of the road and let them pass. This is the safest option, as it will prevent a potential collision.
