Materials you'll need:
- Dishwashing liquid
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Ammonia
- Paper towels
- A scrub brush
- A wet cloth
Instructions:
1. Immediately soak up as much of the oil as possible using paper towels. Blot the area, taking care not to rub it.
2. Mix a solution of dishwashing liquid and water. Use a ratio of 1:10 (one part dishwashing liquid to ten parts water).
3. Apply the solution to the oil stain and gently scrub it with a scrub brush.
4. Rinse the area with clean water and blot it dry with paper towels.
5. If any stain remains, make a cleaning mixture by combining 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide, one tablespoon of dish soap, and 1/2 teaspoon of ammonia.
6. Apply the mixture to the stain and let it sit for about 15 minutes.
7. Scrub the stain again with a scrub brush and rinse it with clean water.
8. Blot until dry and evaluate whether any stain remains. If a little stain persists, repeat steps 5 through 8.
Important points:
- Don't use rubbing alcohol as it can set the stain.
- If the carpet is made of a delicate fabric, test the solution on a small area before applying it to the entire stain.
- Work quickly to remove the stain before it sets in.
