While motorcycles and scooters use an alternating current (AC) generator to produce power, the CDI (Capacitive Discharge Ignition) system relies on a direct current (DC) supply to operate. The rectifier/regulator unit converts the AC output from the generator to DC, which then powers the CDI box.
