To clear the light, you'll need to:
1. Identify the problem: Take your Tracker to an auto parts store. They often offer free OBDII code scans. This scan will give you a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) that points to the specific problem.
2. Repair the problem: Once you know the cause (e.g., a faulty oxygen sensor, a loose gas cap, etc.), you need to fix it. Ignoring the problem won't make the light go away and could lead to more serious damage.
3. After Repair: After the repair is complete, the SES light might clear itself after a few driving cycles (a drive of 10-20 miles or more). If it doesn't, you can use an OBDII code reader to clear the code. Many affordable scanners are available at auto parts stores.
Simply disconnecting the battery will sometimes temporarily clear the code, but the light will reappear if the problem persists. This is not a solution – only a temporary masking of the underlying problem.
