How do you replace the thermostat on a 2000 dodge neon?

Tools Needed:

* Pliers

* Screwdriver

* Funnel

* 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water

Instructions

1.) Pull the negative battery cable off of the battery (10mm wrench)

2.) Drain the radiator by opening the petcock on the bottom (located on left side, in front of engine).

3.) Once drained, remove the bottom radiator hose at the thermostat housing.

4.) The thermostat housing is located towards the top passenger side of the engine, there are two 13mm bolts holding it in place.

5.) Remove the two 13mm bolts and remove the gasket under the thermostat. If the gasket is stuck to the housing, remove the thermostat while using the pry tool to slowly dislodge the gasket around the rim.

6.) Using a razor clean the mating surface.

7.) Reinstall the new gasket and new thermostat.

8.) Reinstall the two bolts and tighten to snug

9.) Refill the radiator and coolant overflow tank with the 50/50 mix.

10.) Reconnect the battery cable.

11.) Start the engine and allow to reach operating temperature to verify there are no leaks.
