1. Disconnect the battery. This is a safety precaution to prevent any electrical shock while you are working on the distributor.
2. Remove the distributor cap. There are two screws that hold the distributor cap in place. Remove these screws and lift the cap off of the distributor.
3. Locate the two wires that come out of the distributor. One of these wires will be black and the other will be white.
4. Connect the black wire to the negative terminal on the coil.
5. Connect the white wire to the positive terminal on the coil.
6. Replace the distributor cap. Make sure that the cap is seated properly and that the screws are tightened securely.
7. Reconnect the battery.
8. Start the engine and check the timing. The timing should be set at 8 degrees BTDC.
Note: If the engine does not start or if the timing is incorrect, you may need to adjust the position of the distributor. To do this, loosen the bolt that holds the distributor in place and rotate the distributor until the engine starts and the timing is correct.
