Where is 2001 Nissan Xterra fuel filter?

1. Turn the ignition to the “Lock” position.

2. If equipped, release the pressure in the fuel system per the vehicle’s owner manual fuel pressure relief instructions. On many vehicles, this includes removing the fuel cap and pressing a Schrader valve on the fuel injection rail with a small screwdriver.

3. Locate the fuel filter. The fuel filter is typically located near the fuel pump, which is usually located in the fuel tank. On 4x4 vehicles with the fuel tank mounted in the frame, however, the fuel filter may be located near the engine. Consult the vehicle repair manual for the exact location of the fuel filter.

4. Place a drain pan under the fuel filter to catch any spilled fuel.

5. Loosen the fuel line connections at the fuel filter. There may be two fuel lines, one going into the fuel filter, and one coming out. There may be a small amount of fuel that spills when you disconnect the fuel lines, so be careful.

6. Use a wrench to loosen and remove the fuel filter mounting bracket bolts.

7. Remove the old fuel filter from the vehicle.

8. Install a new fuel filter in the reverse order that you removed the old one. Make sure you tighten the fuel line connections and the fuel filter mounting bracket bolts securely.
