Last month Renault started delivering the Renault Twingo ZE in some European countries and over 755 units were already delivered, of which 678 units in France alone.
Renault expects that at least 30 % of Twingo total sales to be of the electric ZE version. Moreover, Renault expects that at least half of the Renault Twingo ZE sales to occur in its domestic market France.
Considering that in 2019 Renault managed to sell 87.383 units of the gas Twingo and 30 % of this is 26.215 units, we shouldn’t expect Renault to sell more than 30.000 units next year.
As for the more expensive and profitable ZOE, Renault is likely to surpass 80.000 units sold this year.
The reality is that the current Renault Twingo ZE is just a stopgap until the next generation arrives in 2022, probably improved with DC fast charging and double the range for the same list price.

However, this doesn’t mean that the current generation of this small electric car isn’t worth it. I expect Renault to offer generous discounts next year, just before the new generation gets announced.
