1. Park your car on level ground and turn off the engine.
2. Open the hood of your car and locate the transmission fluid dipstick. On the Passat, the dipstick is usually located near the back of the engine bay, on the driver's side. It should have a yellow handle.
3. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag. Be careful, as the transmission fluid may be hot.
4. Reinsert the dipstick into the transmission fluid reservoir and pull it out again.
5. Check the fluid level on the dipstick. There should be two marks on the dipstick, indicating the "safe" and "danger" levels. The fluid should be between these marks.
6. If the fluid level is low, you will need to add transmission fluid. Use an oil funnel to add fluid slowly until the level reaches the "safe" mark. Be careful not to overfill the transmission.
7. Reinsert the dipstick and close the hood of your car.
It is recommended that you check the transmission fluid level on your Volkswagen Passat regularly. Low transmission fluid can cause your transmission to overheat, leading to expensive repairs.
