_Park your car in a safe location._ Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down. Make sure the car is in Park and the parking brake is engaged.
_Locate the battery._ The battery is located in the trunk of your Beetle. Open the trunk and look for a black plastic cover with the Volkswagen logo on it. Remove the cover to reveal the battery.
_Disconnect the negative terminal._ Use a wrench to loosen the nut that holds the negative terminal cable to the battery. Be careful not to touch the positive terminal with the wrench, as this could cause a short circuit.
_Disconnect the positive terminal._ Use a wrench to loosen the nut that holds the positive terminal cable to the battery.
_Remove the old battery._ Carefully lift the old battery out of the trunk. Be careful not to drop it, as it is heavy.
_Install the new battery._ Place the new battery in the trunk in the same position as the old battery.
_Reconnect the positive terminal._ Use a wrench to tighten the nut that holds the positive terminal cable to the battery.
_Reconnect the negative terminal._ Use a wrench to tighten the nut that holds the negative terminal cable to the battery.
_Replace the battery cover._ Put the black plastic cover back on the battery.
_Start your car._ Turn the key in the ignition to start your car. The battery indicator light on your dashboard should go out.
_Test the battery._ Drive your car for a few minutes to allow the battery to charge. Then, turn off the engine and turn on the headlights. If the headlights stay on, the battery is charging properly.
