1. Park your Volvo S40 on level ground and turn off the engine.
2. Open the hood of your car and locate the transmission fluid dipstick. The dipstick is on the driver’s side of the transmission; look for the yellow handle.
3. Pull the dipstick out and wipe it clean with a rag.
