1. Disconnect the battery.
This will prevent any accidental electrical shock while you are working.
2. Drain the coolant.
This will prevent the coolant from leaking out when you remove the thermostat housing.
3. Remove the air cleaner.
This will give you access to the throttle body and intake manifold.
4. Disconnect the throttle cable and fuel lines.
Be careful not to spill any fuel.
5. Remove the intake manifold.
There are four bolts that hold the intake manifold in place. Once the bolts are removed, you can carefully lift off the intake manifold.
6. Remove the exhaust manifold.
There are six bolts that hold the exhaust manifold in place. Once the bolts are removed, you can carefully lift off the exhaust manifold.
7. Disconnect the starter motor and oil filter.
Be sure to plug the oil filter hole so no oil leaks out.
8. Remove the flexplate or flywheel.
There are six bolts that hold the flexplate or flywheel in place. Once the bolts are removed, you can carefully remove the flexplate or flywheel.
9. Remove the transmission bolts and nuts.
There are four bolts and two nuts that hold the transmission in place. Once the bolts and nuts are removed, you can carefully slide the transmission out from under the car.
10. Separate the motor from the transmission.
Once the transmission is removed, you can carefully separate the motor from the transmission. Be sure to lift the motor evenly to avoid damaging it.
