1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to disable the electrical system and prevent accidental airbag deployment.
2. Locate the ignition switch on the right side of the steering column, below the steering wheel.
3. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position.
4. Use a small flat-head screwdriver or a key extractor tool to depress the release button located on the side of the ignition lock cylinder.
5. With the release button depressed, turn the key counterclockwise until it comes to a stop.
6. Remove the key and pull the ignition lock cylinder straight out of the housing.
7. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the back of the ignition switch.
8. Remove the mounting screws that secure the ignition switch to the steering column.
9. Pull the ignition switch out of the housing and replace it with a new one.
10. Reattach the mounting screws and reconnect the electrical connectors.
11. Insert the key and turn it to the "ON" position to test the new ignition switch.
12. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
