1. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position.
2. While the key is in the "On" position, press and hold the release button located on the side of the ignition switch.
3. Continue to hold the release button while you turn the key to the "Off" position.
4. Remove the key from the ignition and try to start the car.
If the ignition switch still does not unlock, you may need to replace the ignition lock cylinder. Here are the steps to replace the ignition lock cylinder:
1. Remove the steering wheel.
2. Remove the ignition switch bezel.
3. Remove the ignition switch mounting bolts.
4. Remove the ignition switch from the vehicle.
5. Remove the lock cylinder from the ignition switch.
6. Install the new lock cylinder into the ignition switch.
7. Reinstall the ignition switch into the vehicle.
8. Reinstall the ignition switch mounting bolts.
9. Reinstall the ignition switch bezel.
10. Reinstall the steering wheel.
