Tools and materials needed:
a. Owner’s manual
b. Clean rags
c. Flashlight
NOTE: The transmission fluid level should be checked only after the engine has been warmed up and running for a few minutes.
1. Park the vehicle on level ground and apply the parking brake.
2. Open the hood of the vehicle.
3. Locate the transmission fluid dipstick. It is usually a long, thin dipstick with a yellow or red handle. It is located near the back of the engine compartment, close to the transmission and it will be marked with the word “Transmission” or an abbreviation such as “TRANS.”
4. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag.
5. Reinsert the dipstick fully into the transmission fluid tube.
6. Pull out the dipstick and check the fluid level. The fluid level should be between the “Full” and “Add” marks on the dipstick.
7. If the fluid level is low, add enough transmission fluid to bring the level up to the “Full” mark.
8. Reinsert the dipstick and check the fluid level again. Make sure that the fluid level is not overfilled, as this can cause damage to the transmission.
9. Close the hood of the vehicle.
