- New PCV valve
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Wrench
Procedure:
1. Locate the PCV valve. On the 2001 Elantra, it is usually found on the passenger side of the engine compartment, near the throttle body.
2. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry open the metal bracket that holds the PCV valve in place.
3. Once the bracket is open, use a wrench to unscrew the PCV valve from the engine block.
4. Remove the old PCV valve and inspect it for dirt or damage. If it is dirty, clean it with a solvent. If it is damaged, replace it with a new one.
5. Screw the new PCV valve into the engine block. Hand-tighten it until it is snug, then use a wrench to tighten it completely.
6. Reattach the metal bracket that holds the PCV valve in place.
7. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks around the PCV valve. If there are no leaks, the job is complete.
Note:
The PCV valve should be changed every 30,000 miles or 3 years, whichever comes first.
