1. Disconnect the battery. To do this, open the hood of your Avalon and locate the battery. It will be on the driver's side, near the front of the engine. Use a wrench to loosen the negative terminal (black) and disconnect the battery. Do this by turning the wrench counterclockwise until the battery terminal is no longer connected to the terminal stud. Disconnect the positive terminal (red) in the same manner.
2. Wait for 30 minutes. This will allow the airbag warning light control module to discharge.
3. Reconnect the battery. First, connect the positive terminal (red) and then the negative terminal (black). Be sure to use a wrench to tighten the terminal bolts until they are snug.
4. Start your car. When the car is running, the airbag warning light may stay illuminated. If it does, simply ignore it. The light will automatically reset itself after being turned on for about 30 seconds.
5. If the above steps do not work, you may need to have your car repaired. There could be a problem with the airbag warning light control module or one of the airbag sensors.
