1. Park your Tacoma on level ground and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down for a few minutes.
2. Open the hood of your Tacoma.
3. Locate the transmission fluid dipstick. It is usually located on the driver's side of the engine compartment, near the back of the engine. The dipstick is typically red or orange in color and has a yellow handle.
4. Remove the dipstick from the transmission fluid tube and wipe it clean with a rag.
5. Reinsert the dipstick into the tube until it is fully seated.
6. Remove the dipstick again and check the level of the transmission fluid. The fluid level should be between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks on the dipstick.
7. If the transmission fluid level is low, add enough fluid to bring it to the "FULL" mark. Use only the type of transmission fluid recommended in your Tacoma's owner's manual.
8. Reinsert the dipstick until it is fully seated.
9. Close the hood of your Tacoma.
Check the transmission fluid level on your Toyota Tacoma every 3,000 miles or every three months, whichever comes first.
