How do you change an abs traction control sensor in the left front hub of a 1999 Pontiac grand am?

You will need:

* Replacement abs sensor

* Socket set

* Jack and jack stands

* Pry bar

Instructions

NOTE:

- Disconnect the negative battery terminal cable before starting this repair.

- Be extremely careful when working near any active air bags.

- DO NOT turn the key ON for any reason or the air bag could deploy and cause injury.

1. Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and support on jackstands placed on a solid portion of the frame. Use chocks to prevent the car from rolling.

2. Remove the lug nuts and take the left front tire off.

3. Remove the brake caliper by removing the two 15mm bolts that secure the brake caliper. Lift the caliper off the rotor and support with bungee cord or rope so caliper is not pulled on the brake line. DO NOT depress brake pedal with the brake caliper removed.

4. Remove the two bolts that secure the bracket that holds the abs sensor. You may need to use WD-40 if this is rusty. The bolts for the bracket may or may not be there if they snapped while removing the abs senor.

5. Remove the sensor from the wheel bearing by pulling it out by the rubber grommet seal.

6. Slide the new sensor in the sensor hole.

7. Reattach the bracket that secures the sensor in place (you may need to pull the sensor all the way out of the bearing to be able to slide the bracket on the back of the sensor. You may need new bracket bolts if the originals snapped.).

8. Remove the tie wraps on the abs harness and slide it through the bracket on the back of the sensor.

9. Reattach the caliper and put the lugnuts on finger tight.

10. Lower the vehicle with the jack and fully tighten the lug nuts.

Reconnect the battery and the job is complete.

*Please be extremely careful when working around any air bags. Air bags can deploy while working near them and cause injury.*
