The fuel filter on a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche is located inside the fuel tank. Fuel filter access on the 5.3L engine model is located underneath the vehicle, near the spare tire. For the 8.1L engine model it is located on top of the fuel tank.
Fuel Filter Replacement Instructions
5.3L Engine Model
1. Locate the fuel filter. It is located inside the fuel tank, near the spare tire.
2. Insert a drip pan under the filter to catch any spilled fuel.
3. Using a 1/2-inch wrench, loosen the fuel line connections at both ends of the filter.
4. Grasp the fuel filter and pull it out of the fuel tank.
5. Apply a small amount of petroleum jelly to the O-rings on the new fuel filter.
6. Insert the new fuel filter into the fuel tank.
7. Reconnect the fuel line connections.
8. Tighten the fuel line connections with a 1/2-inch wrench.
8.1L Engine Model
1. Open the fuel filler door and remove the fuel cap.
2. Place a rag under the fuel filler neck to catch any spilled fuel.
3. Use a screwdriver to pry open the fuel filter access cover.
4. Remove the old fuel filter by pulling it out of the fuel tank.
5. Insert the new fuel filter into the fuel tank.
6. Replace the fuel filter access cover.
7. Replace the fuel cap and close the fuel filler door.
