Why would the battery light and ABS come on in my cavalier?

There are a number of reasons why the battery light and ABS (anti-lock brake system) light might come on in your Chevrolet Cavalier.

Battery Light:

The battery light indicates a problem with the charging system. This could be caused by a number of things, such as:

- A faulty alternator

- A loose or damaged serpentine belt

- Corroded battery terminals

- A bad battery

ABS Light:

The ABS light indicates a problem with the anti-lock brake system. This could be caused by a number of things, such as:

- A faulty ABS sensor

- A damaged ABS module

- A low brake fluid level

- A problem with the wiring to the ABS system

If both the battery light and the ABS light are on at the same time, it is likely that there is a problem with the charging system. This is because the charging system provides power to the ABS system, and if the charging system is not working properly, the ABS system will not be able to function properly.

It is important to have both of these lights checked out by a qualified mechanic as soon as possible. Driving with a faulty charging system or ABS system can be dangerous.

Here are some additional things you can check if the battery light and ABS light come on in your Cavalier:

- Check the battery terminals to make sure they are clean and tight.

- Check the serpentine belt to make sure it is in good condition and properly tensioned.

- Check the brake fluid level.

If you are not comfortable performing any of these checks, it is best to have your vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic.
