1. Park the truck in a level spot and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely before starting the repair.
2. Locate the fuel filter. The fuel filter on the 1996 Chevy 1500 pickup is located under the truck, near the fuel tank. It is a cylindrical-shaped object with two fuel lines connected to it.
3. Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel filter. Use the fuel line pliers to disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel filter. Be careful not to spill any gasoline.
4. Remove the fuel filter. Use the screwdriver to remove the mounting screws that hold the fuel filter in place. Once the screws are removed, you can pull the fuel filter out of its housing.
5. Install the new fuel filter. Insert the new fuel filter into the housing and secure it with the mounting screws. Make sure the fuel filter is properly seated before reinstalling the fuel lines.
6. Reconnect the fuel lines. Use the fuel line pliers to reconnect the fuel lines to the fuel filter. Be careful not to over-tighten the fuel lines.
7. Start the engine and check for leaks. Start the truck and let it run for a few minutes. Inspect the fuel lines for any leaks. If there are any leaks, tighten the fuel lines until the leaks stop.
8. Dispose of the old fuel filter. The old fuel filter should be disposed of properly. You can take it to a local recycling center or auto parts store for proper disposal.
