The output speed sensor is located on the transmission bell housing underneath the radiator overflow container and transmission fill tube.
Here are the steps on how to replace the output speed sensor:
1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Park the vehicle in Neutral and apply the parking brake.
3. Remove the overflow container by gently squeezing the bottom locking tabs.
4. Remove the transmission fill tube.
5. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry up the connector locking tab and then disconnect the output speed sensor connector.
6. Remove the old sensor using an 8mm socket.
7. Install the new sensor. Tighten the sensor to 18 ft-lbs.
8. Connect the output speed sensor connector.
9. Reinstall the transmission fill tube.
10. Reinstall the overflow container.
11. Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
Note: The output speed sensor is sometimes called the vehicle speed sensor (VSS).
