Where is the Thermostat in a 2002 Chevrolet Impala 3.4?

2002 Chevrolet Impala 3.4L V6 Thermostat Replacement

Before beginning, disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid any electrical hazards.

1. Locate the thermostat housing. The thermostat housing is located on the front of the engine, near the top of the water pump. It is a round, black plastic housing with two bolts holding it in place.

2. Remove the two bolts that hold the thermostat housing in place.

3. Remove the thermostat housing. Be careful not to spill any coolant.

4. Remove the old thermostat from the housing.

5. Inspect the thermostat. The thermostat should be closed when it is cold and open when it is hot. If the thermostat is stuck open or closed, it will need to be replaced.

6. Install the new thermostat in the housing.

7. Replace the thermostat housing.

8. Reinstall the two bolts that hold the thermostat housing in place.

9. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

10. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.

11. Check the coolant level and add coolant if necessary.

12. Replace any fluid that may have been lost during the procedure.
